St. Lucia New(s)

Good day my friends! So, cool news on St. Lucia (The link will take you to their videos) front: 1)They're first full length studio album drops this October (the 8th to be exact) and 2) They've released the first single off of it, Elevate. I've also included a little jam they put the together in between the release of their EP and the single below called September.

Leaning heavily on synth-pop (which started in the 80's and is making a strong comeback), St. Lucia finds themselves in a good niche with the likes of Cut Copy and Empire of the Sun. Hopefully, When the Night is the start of a long career from them. I look forward to what this album holds.

Who Doesn't Like Bob Marley?

So, my internet friends (all three of you that still bother to rummage through a music addicts blog). Bob Marley, or at least his estate is, releasing an album later this summer. Who remembers his album Legend? What a wonderful greatest hits album, I dare say one of the best out there. Well, anyway, his estate has deemed it OK to remix all of it. I leave you with an open verdict and a couple of songs from the upcoming album...Till later.

Yours Unfaithfully,

B

This song, Everybody Get Up...

I'm not one for super mainstream artists like Robin Thicke, Pharrell and T.I. But this song is so good I couldn't pass it up. Enjoy Blurred Lines my friends.

The Colourist

A new band for you. The Colourist are an infectious little band out of California. I honestly haven't found anything they have written that I don't like. Yeah, they're that good. Give it a couple of months and you will start to see them EVERYWHERE, radio, commercials etc... Be the hipster you always thought you could be and enjoy them before they're huge... Oh, and you know me, I threw in a remix for old times sake. It's by my last featured musician, St. Lucia.

St. Lucia

I stumbled upon this gem of a group last month and due to my rampant laziness I'm just now sharing them with you. The group is called St. Lucia (not to be confused of an island with a similar name). Hailing from Johannesburg the lead singer, Jean-Philip Grobler, formed the group in New York and have been making magic since. I've put there newest EP below so you guys can take a listen, if you like it, buy it (links included for you ituners). I'm going to go ahead and call it, best EP of late 2012-early 2013. Enjoy.

Listen...NC Local, Chip Ivory

You kids know I can't pass up a solid artist from either NC or SC (see Toro Y Moi and Washed Out), when they present themselves. Chip Ivory aka Ryan Driscoll is no different. He is throwing some sweet heat on some mashups he is creating out of Raleigh. I threw some of his tracks below, show him some love, like his page, and get some downloadable music.

If This Doesn't Make Your Day Better...

Listen, if this doesn't make your day any better, I'm pretty sure you're either the Grumpy Cat or you have no feelings. Thanks to AlunaGeorge for bringing The Jungle Book back to my mind.

Listen...The Hood

It's been awhile since I've posted something about The Hood Internet, but the boys have been putting out some solid tracks over the past couple of months. Let's go through some of them shall we? First up, because I can't get enough of this tune, is a mashup of JT's Suit & Tie with Daft Punk's Commerial, aptly titled Suit & Commercial. I always think you can't go wrong with a little Daft Punk in your life. The second mashup is done by Juicy J and Black Moth Super Rainbow (BMSR) titled Gangz a Make Her Dance. Finally, Purity Ring and Frank Ocean have been brought together for Pyramidspeak. Enjoy these sweet tunes, peoples.

Words

Bruce Lee, ladies and gentlemen.

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless - like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”

Listen...RAC, Go Go Soul

I am throwing a new group into the mix of things this time around. The GO GO SOUL (new) has a song out that has been remixed by Guts (who has been on the blog before). The track is sweet and it grooves, well done, Guts, well done.
Next is a remix artist that has been featured on this blog way more times than not. RAC (Remix Artist Collective) can do no wrong it seems. This track being no different. Next Year, by Two Door Cinema Club has gotten the RAC treatment and it does not fail to disappoint, take a listen below.

I have a couple of licks for you to jam out to. The first is by Woody (gigantic Outkast fan) has remixed their track Elevators, I dare say, for the better. Next is a remixed track off of Big Boi's Dangerous Lies & Vicious Rumors. The track, "Lines", is remixed by ill-Esha, enjoy that. Finally, "Manhattan", a track by Cat Power ft. Angle Haze is remixed by a Canadian bloke, Ryan Hemsworth. Enjoy.

PS. A little something extra: Skew it on the Bar. Plus 3 of these tracks can be downloaded.

I'm offering to you, a band, from OZ. The Expatriate formed in Sydney, AUS and have two EPs and two full length albums. They're sound is considered rock, but they have some electronic influences that are played with in the background of their sound. Enjoy.

JT

His last album, Future Sex/Love Sounds was solid, so when he annouced he was working on a new record, I got pretty stoked. It also didn't hurt his new single Suit and Tie is really good. There are already DJ's across the nation already throwing there spin on the new single. I've thrown some of my favorite in. The best one, I think, is the first. I'll finish off by throwing in an oldie for ya.

Chvrches...

My topic for discussion today is a Glasgow native band called Chvrches (pronounced churches). They sound a bit like The Knife, but a little more poppy. The BBC has already checked them out and rated them one of the top new sounds of 2013 (yeah, these guys are on the ball, we're not even through January).  These guys are pretty good at spotting talent I might add, they pegged Frank Ocean as the top new sound last year, with Azealia Banks in a close second.

You should probably check them out now, so when they get big you can tell your friends you knew them before they got big. It's the right (hipster) thing to do. Yeah, they're really good.

What is that you say? It's strange for me to not to post a remix? Tough, deal with it. Tant pis. Maybe I'll do it later. Enjoy this original material meow and discuss.

New Year, Dope Tunes

Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah!

It's been awhile since I've posted so I thought I would cover the bases here peoples (all four of my readers). Speaking of covering, per usual, I have some remixes and mashups. First is a mashup by The Jane Doze, an all lady duo straight out of NYC. It features Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles and J. Cole's Can't Get Enough. Honestly, it's a 'beaut, sweet sounds for your ears.

Next is another mashup by The Jane Doze. It features T.Swift's Trouble (I promise it's good), Lies by Marina & The Diamonds (Zeds Dead Remix). Once again, a solid audio listen.

Finally, it's not all about The Jane Doze ladies, MNDR has a track that's be remixed by RAC. RAC has been throwing out some really dope mixes lately and they are still cranking them out with this one. Check it out.
